“The Irrational Season” Linocut Giclee Prints
“After Annunciation”
This is the irrational season
when love blooms bright and wild.
Had Mary been filled with reason
there’d have been no room for the child.—Madeleine L’Engle
I created this piece of art to capture the feeling of wonder, hope, and humility of Mary during the annunciation.
In this limited edition, there is a highly symbolic border surrounding Mary, giving the piece an iconic feel. Along the top of the border, there is a sun dawning, alluding to Isaiah 60:1 which says,
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you.
Along the sides of the border are lilies of the valley in front of tear shapes. It is said that when Mary cried at the feet of Jesus, on the cross, Lillies of the Valley grew where her tears fell. These lilies and tears are meant to capture the complexity of hope, grief, and beauty all intertwined.
At the bottom of the border is a rose. One of the names for Mary is the Mystical Rose. Roses are considered the queen among flowers and similarly Mary is called the queen of heaven and earth.
This print would make an excellent addition to anyone looking for more thoughtful and liturgical art in their lives. It would make a thoughtful and unique gift for anyone seeking to live a life of hidden humility.
This listing is for a giclee print in a double mat. Each piece is professionally printed on archival paper, numbered, signed, and packaged in double mat. The print is 5x7, matted to 8x10 and ready for the frame of your choice.
May Mary’s words of faith ring in your heart every time you see this print, “I am the Lord’s servant…may your word to me be fulfilled.” (Luke 1:38)
