"THARSEŌ" original oil painting

$3,200.00

This listing is for the second painting from my new collection In Part. This collection is a series of four carved and painted panels representing spring, summer, autumn, and winter. “Tharseō” is the second painting in the series representing summer. This collection was inspired by the verse from Corinthians that says:

“Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

I combined elements of wood carving and classical realism to produce the tension and illusion of both a flat and dimensional surface. I wanted a painting that represented the complexity of suffering and grief, which can feel like a carving out, a hollowing. I chose this rose to represent summer in this collection for several reasons, one of them being its delightful peach color. Peach colored roses typically symbolize gratitude and that’s exactly how I feel in this season—grateful. If you’ve ever walked through a time of irrational and unexplainable darkness, you never take the light and life of peace for granted.

Tharseō is a Greek word meaning to “take heart, or take courage.” It’s taken from the verse in John 16:33 when Jesus says to his disciples:

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

This painting is an invitation to take heart, that there is a light that will overcome all darkness and restore all beauty that has felt lost.
